I have a 2001 chevy s10 which needs a new clutch.?

I am looking to replace the clutch in my truck to avoid pay the high cost for mechanics. I am pretty good at mechanics but have never changed a clutch. it is a 2001 chevy s10 extended cab 2.2l truck. I will have help and want to know if there is anything i should know or be aware of. I really don't know what to expect and i imagine it to be little difficult since i have to drop the transmission. If you can give me some information i would greatly appreciatte it. thanks

I changed one clutch in my life. There is one tool you will definately need. Ask your parts store, I can't remember the name but it is a plastic spline shaft to keep stuff in line while the tranny is out.

Gather together your parts. You will need the clutch plate, and while it's apart, you might as well do the pilot bearing and throw out bearing. See http://www.thepartsbin.com/guides/chevy/鈥?/a> to get the kit for your vehicle.

And you're right, to get to it, you need to drop the transmission, which means removing the drive shaft also. Easy enough if you happen to have a lift in your garage, and a good transmission jack, otherwise it means raise it up, jack stands, and laying on your back under the truck, a floor jack with some 2 by 4's, etc.

Actually it won't be that expensive to have it done, which would be my recommendation. If you really really want to do it yourself, pick up a Chilton's manual for your truck and read the chapter on clutches.
Go on and pay the money, it's worth it. Unless of coarse you have a lift and a transmission jack. This really isn't a %26quot;lay in the dirt%26quot; job. But if you do decide to do it make sure you keep everything in line (ex torque converter, throw out bearing, stuff like that) b/c if somethings not sitting rite when you go to put it back together it will never work and you'll have to take it to the shop anyway.

Question about my clutch?

I have an old 91 dodge dakota 5 speed 4x4. the clutch is out..can someone tell me if it's complicated or not to change a clutch in this truck?.. will i have to pull the motor or drop the transmission?

thanks for your help
Question about my clutch?
You can drop the trans to get to the clutch without much difficulty. Then you will be able to get to the clutch. Probably about 5 hours total if you are inexperienced. Remember if you are going to the trouble to do this then have the flywheel turned and replaced the pilot bearing to preserve the life of the clutch that you are installing
Question about my clutch?
you will have to pull the drive shaft off take loose any thing that is connected to the transmission like wires and cables then take the transmission mount completely off and have a jack so you can lift and lower the transmission then take out the bolts that hold the transmission on to the engine pull back just a lil bit and the transmission is out replace the clutch and parts and put it all back on in revirse order if you need more help my email is phillipprc@yahoo.com and i have yahoo im
the best way and the cheapest way is to drop the transmition and start from there. and no its not complicated, just get a really experinced mecanic on transmitions..... mite be the master slave cylinder??? im guessing??

Ford escort 1990 1.6efi 8valve clutch removal and fitting?

has any 1 ever changed a clutch on these, if so how hard are they to do, or is it easier to take to the garage
Ford escort 1990 1.6efi 8valve clutch removal and fitting?
easy if you've got the tools, garage, ramp and the knowledge! if not pay a RECOMMENDED professional!
Ford escort 1990 1.6efi 8valve clutch removal and fitting?
easy if you know what u doing
Not hard to do if you have experience. I take it its an XR3i H reg? If so, the gearbox needs to be removed to expose the clutch. After that its a handful of 10mm or 12mm bolts ( cant remember, it was a long time ago!) to remover the clutch.

If there is a dampner unit in the hydraulic system remove it and re-bleed the system.
the tech is right. also make sure its is adjusted properly, or else it might not engage/disengage properly.

What is needed to swap a new transmission for a 2000 4.7 4x4 dakota?

I just bought a tranny for my dakota and was wondering if i would be able to swap it myself. I changed a clutch on a rwd sr20 so i did this kind of thing before. Now this is a 4x4 and automatic and much bigger. Is it a pretty straight forward thing or to overwhelming?

you need a real good transmission jack to do this with its more than a floor jack can handle they make a real good floor model transmission jack that will do this and you also need a helper to guide things in and line them up,other wise its pretty strait forwards like doing a regular one, install the transmission first though then install the transfer case on after you get the transmission bolted up its a lot easier this way,the rest is pretty strait forwards on doing that one, just take your time with it and don't get in a hurry ,and it helps to have a good repair manual around for reference, good luck.

  • My clutch failed 13 months after I bought a brand new SUV. Don't know why.?

I have been driving a clutch for approximately 20 years, and only once did I have to change a clutch after 11 years with one car and never with the other. I love Honda vehicles but I bought one 13 months ago and it just decided to fail. The dealer assumes it me since there were no recalls, Does anyone have any idea as to why this would happen?
My clutch failed 13 months after I bought a brand new SUV. Don't know why.?
Honda hasn't been building SUV's for as long as some other car makers but they usually get things right. It sounds like this should be under warranty and there should be no excuses from the dealer. I would make them replace it and I would not take no for an answer. I would then contact the customer service representative from the corporation itself. Honda has always kept communication channels open when it comes to input about their vehicles. I have owned 4 of them and I had to replace the clutch on 1. It wasn't an SUV but I didn't know what I was getting when I bought it. If I didn't know better I would have to think that the clutches in these SUV's are a weak spot that needs to be addressed at the manufacturing level or needs to be recalled to fix the problem. Good luck.

If it %26quot;failed%26quot; meaning something broke it should be under warranty.

If it is %26quot;worn out%26quot; meaning the clutch material is all worn off, the only %26quot;cause%26quot; of this is excessive slipping of the clutch.

SUV's are heavier than most vehicles, they are much less forgiving of clutch slipping than smaller vehicles.

I need step by step instructions on how to change a clutch on a 1986 Mazda 626 sadan?

MY CLUTCH WENT OUT SO I AM REPLACING IT. TO SAVE SOME $ IM DOING THE LABOR MYSELF. I HAVE DONE MECANIC WORK BEFORE SO I DO KNOW MY WAY AROUND AN ENGINE. AS FAR AS A CLUTCH GOES ALL I NEED IS SOMEONE TO WALK ME THROUGH IT. SO IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT REPLACING A CLUTCH PLEASE SEND ME INSTRUCTIONS ON IT STEP BY STEP

Much too complicated to itemize in these forums and almost impossible without the proper tools and a lift.

See www.alldatadiy.com for full instructions though.

    OMG!

If you need instructions - it isn't for you. FWD clutch jobs are a nightmare. Last year I swapped the clutch in an Integra. I had to disconnect just about every bolt there exist on the engine.

On top of that you have to hoist the engine and disconnect the steering knuckle and the CV joint. It wasn't worth the money saved.

If you still want to do it, it is best to get a repair manual (I used Chilton but Hayes and others are about the same).

    Good Luck...
I have to agree with the others, although I like to see people try to do their own work. In the case of an '86 Mazda 626, which I owned in the past and loved, I think it's not worth it.

If you are attached to the car, invest in a good manual for 20 bucks on Ebay.

    Good luck.
Unfortunately, you may spend more money doing it yourself that you would getting it done by a professional. It is not an easy job and requires knowledge and experience. Check around and get some expert prices before you try it.
You should purchase a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your specific make and model. The steps involved are a little too numerous for this type of forum. A manual can be had for under $20 - with the added benefit that it'll have photos of the steps involved. You can usually pick one up at a local auto parts store.
