has any 1 ever changed a clutch on these, if so how hard are they to do, or is it easier to take to the garage

Not hard to do if you have experience. I take it its an XR3i H reg? If so, the gearbox needs to be removed to expose the clutch. After that its a handful of 10mm or 12mm bolts ( cant remember, it was a long time ago!) to remover the clutch.
