I have a 2001 chevy s10 which needs a new clutch.?

I am looking to replace the clutch in my truck to avoid pay the high cost for mechanics. I am pretty good at mechanics but have never changed a clutch. it is a 2001 chevy s10 extended cab 2.2l truck. I will have help and want to know if there is anything i should know or be aware of. I really don't know what to expect and i imagine it to be little difficult since i have to drop the transmission. If you can give me some information i would greatly appreciatte it. thanks

I changed one clutch in my life. There is one tool you will definately need. Ask your parts store, I can't remember the name but it is a plastic spline shaft to keep stuff in line while the tranny is out.

Gather together your parts. You will need the clutch plate, and while it's apart, you might as well do the pilot bearing and throw out bearing. See http://www.thepartsbin.com/guides/chevy/鈥?/a> to get the kit for your vehicle.

And you're right, to get to it, you need to drop the transmission, which means removing the drive shaft also. Easy enough if you happen to have a lift in your garage, and a good transmission jack, otherwise it means raise it up, jack stands, and laying on your back under the truck, a floor jack with some 2 by 4's, etc.

Actually it won't be that expensive to have it done, which would be my recommendation. If you really really want to do it yourself, pick up a Chilton's manual for your truck and read the chapter on clutches.
Go on and pay the money, it's worth it. Unless of coarse you have a lift and a transmission jack. This really isn't a %26quot;lay in the dirt%26quot; job. But if you do decide to do it make sure you keep everything in line (ex torque converter, throw out bearing, stuff like that) b/c if somethings not sitting rite when you go to put it back together it will never work and you'll have to take it to the shop anyway.

Question about my clutch?

I have an old 91 dodge dakota 5 speed 4x4. the clutch is out..can someone tell me if it's complicated or not to change a clutch in this truck?.. will i have to pull the motor or drop the transmission?

thanks for your help
Question about my clutch?
You can drop the trans to get to the clutch without much difficulty. Then you will be able to get to the clutch. Probably about 5 hours total if you are inexperienced. Remember if you are going to the trouble to do this then have the flywheel turned and replaced the pilot bearing to preserve the life of the clutch that you are installing
Question about my clutch?
you will have to pull the drive shaft off take loose any thing that is connected to the transmission like wires and cables then take the transmission mount completely off and have a jack so you can lift and lower the transmission then take out the bolts that hold the transmission on to the engine pull back just a lil bit and the transmission is out replace the clutch and parts and put it all back on in revirse order if you need more help my email is phillipprc@yahoo.com and i have yahoo im
the best way and the cheapest way is to drop the transmition and start from there. and no its not complicated, just get a really experinced mecanic on transmitions..... mite be the master slave cylinder??? im guessing??

easy if you've got the tools, garage, ramp and the knowledge! if not pay a RECOMMENDED professional!
Ford escort 1990 1.6efi 8valve clutch removal and fitting?
easy if you know what u doing
Not hard to do if you have experience. I take it its an XR3i H reg? If so, the gearbox needs to be removed to expose the clutch. After that its a handful of 10mm or 12mm bolts ( cant remember, it was a long time ago!) to remover the clutch.

What is needed to swap a new transmission for a 2000 4.7 4x4 dakota?

I just bought a tranny for my dakota and was wondering if i would be able to swap it myself. I changed a clutch on a rwd sr20 so i did this kind of thing before. Now this is a 4x4 and automatic and much bigger. Is it a pretty straight forward thing or to overwhelming?
What is needed to swap a new transmission for a 2000 4.7 4x4 dakota?
you need a real good transmission jack to do this with its more than a floor jack can handle they make a real good floor model transmission jack that will do this and you also need a helper to guide things in and line them up,other wise its pretty strait forwards like doing a regular one, install the transmission first though then install the transfer case on after you get the transmission bolted up its a lot easier this way,the rest is pretty strait forwards on doing that one, just take your time with it and don't get in a hurry ,and it helps to have a good repair manual around for reference, good luck.

  • My clutch failed 13 months after I bought a brand new SUV. Don't know why.?

I have been driving a clutch for approximately 20 years, and only once did I have to change a clutch after 11 years with one car and never with the other. I love Honda vehicles but I bought one 13 months ago and it just decided to fail. The dealer assumes it me since there were no recalls, Does anyone have any idea as to why this would happen?
My clutch failed 13 months after I bought a brand new SUV. Don't know why.?
Honda hasn't been building SUV's for as long as some other car makers but they usually get things right. It sounds like this should be under warranty and there should be no excuses from the dealer. I would make them replace it and I would not take no for an answer. I would then contact the customer service representative from the corporation itself. Honda has always kept communication channels open when it comes to input about their vehicles. I have owned 4 of them and I had to replace the clutch on 1. It wasn't an SUV but I didn't know what I was getting when I bought it. If I didn't know better I would have to think that the clutches in these SUV's are a weak spot that needs to be addressed at the manufacturing level or needs to be recalled to fix the problem. Good luck.
My clutch failed 13 months after I bought a brand new SUV. Don't know why.?
If it %26quot;failed%26quot; meaning something broke it should be under warranty.

If it is %26quot;worn out%26quot; meaning the clutch material is all worn off, the only %26quot;cause%26quot; of this is excessive slipping of the clutch.

SUV's are heavier than most vehicles, they are much less forgiving of clutch slipping than smaller vehicles.

I need step by step instructions on how to change a clutch on a 1986 Mazda 626 sadan?

MY CLUTCH WENT OUT SO I AM REPLACING IT. TO SAVE SOME $ IM DOING THE LABOR MYSELF. I HAVE DONE MECANIC WORK BEFORE SO I DO KNOW MY WAY AROUND AN ENGINE. AS FAR AS A CLUTCH GOES ALL I NEED IS SOMEONE TO WALK ME THROUGH IT. SO IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT REPLACING A CLUTCH PLEASE SEND ME INSTRUCTIONS ON IT STEP BY STEP

Much too complicated to itemize in these forums and almost impossible without the proper tools and a lift.

See www.alldatadiy.com for full instructions though.
I need step by step instructions on how to change a clutch on a 1986 Mazda 626 sadan?
    OMG!

If you need instructions - it isn't for you. FWD clutch jobs are a nightmare. Last year I swapped the clutch in an Integra. I had to disconnect just about every bolt there exist on the engine.

On top of that you have to hoist the engine and disconnect the steering knuckle and the CV joint. It wasn't worth the money saved.

    ===

If you still want to do it, it is best to get a repair manual (I used Chilton but Hayes and others are about the same).

    Good Luck...
I have to agree with the others, although I like to see people try to do their own work. In the case of an '86 Mazda 626, which I owned in the past and loved, I think it's not worth it.

If you are attached to the car, invest in a good manual for 20 bucks on Ebay.

    Good luck.
Unfortunately, you may spend more money doing it yourself that you would getting it done by a professional. It is not an easy job and requires knowledge and experience. Check around and get some expert prices before you try it.
You should purchase a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your specific make and model. The steps involved are a little too numerous for this type of forum. A manual can be had for under $20 - with the added benefit that it'll have photos of the steps involved. You can usually pick one up at a local auto parts store.

    2002 Peugeot 2.0 diesel clutch?

Anyone got any information on changing a clutch on a 2002 peugeot 2.0 diesel?.

Can the box be removed without messing with the subframe?.

    How difficult is the job.

    I`ve done ford,vauxhall,honda etc.,but never this car.

    Thanks
    2002 Peugeot 2.0 diesel clutch?
I have a 2002 Pug 406hdi 110 estate and my youngest son (who is a mechanic) changed the clutch for me last month in his workshop after work hours and i kept him company. Auto data say about 8 hours to do the clutch i believe but he did it in 4.5hrs. To be honest, if you do not have professional garage facilities it will be quite a job. We had the car up on the ramp and had a hydraulic gearbox support stand which was a god send. You will have to remove the front sub frame (and the engine will have to be supported from above), drain the gear box and remove the drive shafts. If you are planning on doing this at home with the car up on standard ramps it will be a lot of work and hassle! Remember we were working with full garage workshop facilities including air tools, 4 poster ramp, hydraulic gearbox stand, engine support bar etc. Just a point, the clutch operation is pull out not the more normal push in.

If the cars clutch is not actually slipping and you are planning the change because the clutch pedal is not taking up drive until near the top of the stroke, before you start dismantling anything, bleed the clutch! You might be lucky and find that you do not need a new clutch after all !.
    2002 Peugeot 2.0 diesel clutch?
Depends on what model. I done a 307 and it took my absolutely hours on end with the hammer, chisel and grinder. the sub-frame did have to be dropped and there was a few security bolts.

It's easy, any redneck can do it in the trailer park driveway.
Just wondering if anyone knows how complex it is to change a clutch on an87 ranger 2 wheel drive?
IT IS A PRETTY GOOD JOB YOU NEED TO DROP THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN REMOVE THE BELL HOUSING AND THEN YOU CAN GET TO THE CLUTCH BE SURE TO CHANGE THE THROWOUT BEARING AND THE PILOT BUSHING WHILE YOU HAVE IT OUT
That鈥檚 a fairly straight forward job. The things to watch out for are, the flywheel, get it checked and find someone with a cup grinder to resurface it. Don鈥檛 let anyone cut it flat.

Check the pilot bearing in the crank, and change it if in doubt. Make sure you have an alignment tool for the disc, make sure the U joints are good, and you should be fine. Oh, and I鈥檓 not sure about an 鈥?7, but some of the Mazda transmission Fords have some rubber seals on top of the transmission in the back that should be sealed, check with a Ford tech.

    Good luck.
its a pretty good little job to do,,you need a transmission jack,,or a good floor jack,,and a good place to work on it,,and you will need to take the flywheel and get it re-surfaced before you put a new clutch in it,,otherwise it may burn the new one out also,,i own a repair shop in Tennessee,,and i wont do one without turning the flywheel on it,,otherwise your just wasting your time on it,,and money,,i have to do them ,,and guarantee them,,so i cant afford to be wrong,,when it comes to a job like that,,,you can do it,,but you need the proper tools for the job,,otherwise you would be better off taking it somewhere and having it done,,this way you will get a guarantee with it,,and if it tears back up,,you just take it back to them,,sometimes its better to do it this way,,good luck with it,,i hope this helps.
well not one of those mechanics bothered to mention how freaking hard it is to get the line off of the hydraulic clutch, good luck with this one as i have only had the oppertunity to do one vehicle like this and man what a pain. for some reason ford liked the idea with that set up. but also remember to torque the flywheel down and check the rear main seal on the engine and anything else thats going to be right there when you have it apart

How to change an clutch in an 87 crx?

remove the tranny and change it.
How to change an clutch in an 87 crx?
drop the tranny, take the throw out bearing off, take the pressure plate off, then the clutch will come right out. you might check the pilot bearing in the crank and look at the bearing retainer, where the throw out bearing runs on, to see if its rough, check the flywheel for burn places ans cracks. if everything looks good, install the clutch, but check the clutch, it should say flywheel side, then just put it in, then the pressure plate, then the throwout bearing, then the tranny.

How easy is it to change a clutch on a MKIII Astra F?

I have a mk3 astra 1.4i Hi-T and am wondering how easy to replace the clutch as the release bearing is going. If it is not a simple procedure then how much should it cost at a garage?

How easy is it to change a clutch on a MKIII Astra F?
Its not really that hard mate , if u get a haynes manual they tell u step by step on how to take it off and replace it ..... all your doing is popping the bell housing off so no need to remove engine. its a sequence to getting it right so get a manual have a read and go for it ...
Under the gear selector unit on the gearbox you will find a number in reasonable sized print. If you post that on here it will be easy to tell you how big a job it is?Number is like F13 or F16 etc.Hope this helps
either 30 mins labour or 2 hours labour depends which gearbox is fitted to your car, both can be done at home on the path if you need to but neither are expensive to have done by a clutch centre.

How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?

I have to put a new clutch in my 95 camaro Z28 LT1 with a 6 speed manual . My rear seal is leaking bad so it leaked oil all over the clutch and now it slips like crazy. So I bought a new rear main seal and a new clutch kit. I am a pretty skilled mechanic I'm just curiouse if any one has ever done one and what I am up against. How long does anybody know will it take to do this job?
How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?
It's all common sense. Driveshaft, exhaust, crossmember, starter, trans, pressure plate, flywheel...in that order. You'll have to take the flywheel somewhere to get it resurfaced, but it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not sure about your seal...I own a fox chassis Mustang, not a Chevy...I don't see how it could be much different though. Installation is reverse of removal. Don't forget trans fluid. Do yourself a favor...Go real easy on the new clutch for the first 500 or so miles. A well broken-in clutch grabs MUCH better than one that wasn't treated well. To answer your question: With the car on jackstands I'd say maybe one Saturday if you don't run into any major snags. Last thing...Tag ang bag your bolts and pay attention to the way **** came apart.
How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?
it takes like 2 hours, youll be fine
Depends on shop, tools, and experience. Usually a good mechanic can do this in about 3-4 hours.

Just changed a clutch and now have issues??

I just did the clutch in my 2001 Hyundai Accent, and it is not working correctly. I did everything correctly, according to the book, but am having a slight issue. When shifting from neutral to 1st or 2nd, the pedal has to be in a very specific spot, about an inch from the floor to go in. If its to the floor, it wont go into gear. Driving 1 through 5 is fine, but when I go to downshift, it has to be at a very low RPM or else it grinds. What could be wrong? Hydraulic system is good with no leaks, no noises or clutch smell, etc. Thanks!
Just changed a clutch and now have issues??
are you sure you put the clutch disc in the right way around?

you could try bleeding the slave cylinder, but i don't think its your problem.
Just changed a clutch and now have issues??
Did you change the release bearing as well? The release bearing %26quot;sometimes called a 'throw-out' bearing will cause the issue you are have .
    check you slave cylender
I'm guessing that you did a complete clutch job , you did replace the pressure plate , clutch , throw-out bearing and the pilot bearing. I'm sure that it as a salve cylinder as well , it maybe that you just don't have all the air bleed out of the line, i had this problem where i throught i had all the air out of the line , but the more i drive it the better the clutch got , so maybe that your problem and the more you drive the better it gets.

  • How do i change a clutch dog on a 1988 3.0 omc?

This isn't totally beyond the scope of your average do-it-yourselfer, but seriously, don't even attempt it without a good service manual, preferably the OEM manual for your specific motor. It will require several special tools.

The step by step details vary by model, but the procedure most always involves dropping the lower unit, removing the shift rod, propshaft bearing carrier and reverse gear, removing the pinion nut and gear, and pulling out the driveshaft bearing housing and driveshaft, which gives you access to the clutch dog, and forward gear.

    good luck.

I got a working clutch in a P reg fiat punto if you want it. 拢200 the whole car!
    How mechanically competent are you?

A clutch change is do-able, but is if your doing it on axle stands it's an easy days work. Never done a Bravo, but it front wheel drive, so you gonna have to remove the driveshafts (or at least slide them out of the gearbox), remove all the ancilliaries from the from the gearbox (including the mount). Drop the gearbox away (on a trolley jack) and then swap the clutch out. It's a one man job if your confident, but is better with 2. The trouble with doing clutches DIY is if anything is seized, then like most jobs it become a right bind.

If you want to do it search the net for an online manual or schematic. Or try your local library to see if they have the haynes for your car.

Incidentally a clutch specialist is proabably gonna want 拢250-350 to do it, so bear that figure in mind if your gonna pay someone.

    Good luck+ hope this helps.
you poor bastard!! lol, I;ll pray for you!

Can any one tell me how to change a clutch on an 02 punto 8 v please?

I can only suggest that you treat yourself to a Haynes Manual which will give all the instruction you will need for the clutch and any other work you might need in the future. The clutch is not a hard one to do on the Punto but it is too technical to go into here.

To be honest, if you are asking the question then its better you take the car to a garage and get them to do it. Its a real pig of a job to do if you don't know what you are doing, the best way to do it is to drop the lower suspension and lower the engine and gear box out.

    Ja.
Go to a garage... and give them the work

    How do I change a clutch master cylinder on a 1991 ford f150 5 speed 6 cylinder 4.9L?

From inside the vehicle, pry the pushrod and retainer bushing from the cross shaft lever pin.

Disconnect the interlock switch connector plug.

Remove the 2 retaining nuts and support bracket connecting the clutch reservoir and master cylinder assembly to the firewall.

From the engine compartment, first note the clutch tube routing to the slave cylinder, then remove the attaching hardware for the hydraulic tube retaining clips.

From the engine compartment, remove the clutch reservoir and master cylinder assembly from the firewall. On F-Series and Bronco, when the master cylinder studs are free of the dash panel, rotate cylinder counterclockwise about 100 degrees to clear the interlock switch and remove the cylinder from the vehicle.
    How do I change a clutch master cylinder on a 1991 ford f150 5 speed 6 cylinder 4.9L?
I don't have a book on that one, but I would first look at where the clutch pedal linkage goes through the firewall. The master is usually attatched to the engine side. should be just a matter of disconnecting and unbolting then installing the new one. I've done them before but it's been a while since I've worked automotive. Make sure you bleed the system ant the slave.

If you're having to ask, I respectfully suggest you pay the garage the 拢150-拢200 it costs to change a Punto's clutch and be done with it.

While it's not awkward job on a Punto, the term 'easy enough' is relative. If you've never changed a clutch before, it could prove quite hard, and as someone else suggested, you could end up doing more harm than good.

If you're determined to try, at least get yourself a Haynes manual for the car and read through the entire process before starting the job.
you cant roughly guide someone though clutch change, get one thing wrong when reasembeling and you have knackered you're engine, i know someone who caused 拢450 worth of damage trying to change their clutch, reassembled it wrong, got the flywheel out of position and buggered the valves.take it to a profesional.

not hard to install, just hard to get to. you have to disconnect everything from motor and drain all fluids, to be able to lift it a little bit to get out of the way. make sure you mark every hose and wire you disconnect so you know where it goes. putting in the clutch itself is easy
How hard is it 2 change a clutch?
    Remove driveshaft

Support engine remove linkage and trans to engine bolts

    remove trans

    remove pressure plate and clutch

    reverse to install

do this laying on your back on the ground

all bolts have to be torqued

hardest part is aligning input shaft up with clutch, while lying on your back, with 75# trans resting on your belly....

Someone who'se done it before can do it in 2 hours.....
If you do not have prior auto repair experience i would highly suggest to leave it to a professional. You need to drop the transmission and correctly install the clutch which will require alignment tools and torque wrenches.
its not relly hard, but you have to know what your doing and have the right tools. its more harder getting started then doing the job.

$20 repair manual or a visit to Auto Zones website can give you step by step. Or . Raise vehicle high enough to be able to work and remove trans from the side on the ground. Block vehicle , remove drive shaft, shift and clutch linkage remove trans mount bolts at the cross member, dust shield at the front ( if it still has one ). Support trans and engine, remove bell housing bolts, remove trans cross member. And lower away. Re and re the clutch disk , pressure plate and throw out and pilot bearing. It`s a good idea to have the flywheel resurfaced even if you do not see small hairline cracks in the surface. Borrow or rent a clutch alignment tool or you will curse for hours trying to get the input shaft in. Have fun. In the driveway with some air tools , ramps, all your parts and a box of beer . 2 guys can hit it off in an afternoon. may take longer to do the clutch after drinking all that beer though. Machining the flywheel not included..

How to change a clutch clip on a 405?

The first answerer has DELETED his worthless answer already!

I went to the website suggested above my answer, and found NOTHING! except the question...%26quot;How to change a clutch clip%26quot;. No helpful advice. No text at all. Am I missing something?

I have a 1989 Peugeot 405, and do ALL my mechanics. There is a clutch cable, a clutch pedal, a clutch lever. Internally (in the clutch housing, removing the gearbox) there is a release bearing, a driven plate, and a heavy clutch spring.

What is a clip? and where is it? The %26quot;TOP CONTRIBUTOR%26quot; in the Peugeot category, who owns a 405, and with years of experience would like to know.

    Thanks.

does anyone know any sites or diagrams anything that can help me learn how to change the clutch plates in my dirt bike 1997 Suzuki RM80
Change a clutch in a 1997 Suzuki RM80 dirt bike?
It is soooooooo easy...First drain your oil...Then pull the side cover off the right side of your motor..Take the bolts out of your clutch basket..Should be a 9mm socket..Pull the outer plate out and you will be able to see your plates..Pull all your plates out..might have to use 2 small screwdrivers to get them out..go easy and make sure not to bend anything..You might have to use your steel plates if you didn't buy new...

Start putting in your new plates...start with a fiber plate and then a steel then a fiber and then a steel..and on and on...As long as you started with a fiber and ended with a fiber your good as gold..Put your plate back on...there might be a mark that you have to line up on your plate and your clutch boss..Like a dot and a little arrow so the plate fits all the way on..Now start putting your springs and bolts back on just snug..Once they are all snug..start to tighten them just a little more then snug..tighten one and then go across from theta one and tighten another and then across from that one..cris-cross..Do not tighten them too tight..don't want to break any....ok...now the side cover and gasket...if you broke your gasket get a new one...don't want it to leak..side cover bolts..just past snug...don't break one off....Your goood to go...

    How to change a clutch?

I need to know of anybody who knows how to change a clutch, well not all of it just the release bearing ????????? will it take long ? do i have to get underneath the car?
    How to change a clutch?
We need the year make and model of the car or truck to explain how to pull this job off. It does require a lot of %26quot;back time%26quot;. If you have a front wheel drive car hire a private mechanic to do it because it takes a lot of tools and mechanical know-how. If the clutch is slipping right now the throw-out bearing isn't going to do squat! You'll need a pressure plate, clutch disc, machine shop to re-surface flywheel and a pilot bearing.
    How to change a clutch?
I can tell you had better find a real mechanic. You won't stand a chance.

The transmission has to be removed from the vehicle. You always check the clutch disc and pressure plate and many times the flywheel needs resurfacing at a machine shop.

If the release bearing is noisy, just keep driving. I've never taken a vehicle apart just for a release bearing.
Procedure varies depending on the car and whether it is rear or front drive though the following will apply -

The gearbox will have to be taken off the engine from underneath. This may need the removal of some engine mounts.

A good garage would do a simple one in about 2 hours but would take up to 5 hours for some cars (that is experienced people with full garage kit).

You would replace the whole clutch as a kit not just part of it while it was apart.

From your question I believe you will be taking it to the garage.
Yes i know, have changed many over the years - but older cars were easy compared to todays front wheel drive ones with a plumbers nightmare under the bonnet. On the mk1 Vauxhall astra 1200 you could change the clutch without removing the gearbox or dismantling anything else. I have often wondered why other manufacturers did not take this idea to heart.
If you're asking %26quot;do I have to get under the car%26quot; I think you'd better head to your nearest garage. Also, never change just one component, change the whole assy. No garage worth their salt would give you a warranty without changing the clutch assy.
You won't do it lying on your back in the road. It's a gearbox-off job, requiring a ramp and some fairly hefty tools. As already said, if you're determined to have it done then get the lot done at the same time, it'll save you paying another lot of labour in the future.
it`s not that easy the gearbox as to come of i would get some one preferably a garage to do it.
    What car is it?.

    Some are easy,some are diabolical.
take it to a garage chum .
You have a blockage in the radiator, you will have to take your car to a garage so that the can blow your radiator out and remove the blockage .

How easy or hard is it to change a clutch in a fiat punto 55 and about how much is the part.?

It all depends on how much you know about cars.If you know

nothing about how they work then i would suggest taking it

to a local garage for an estimate. No point in trying to do it

yourself and making a dogs breakfast of the job,you might do more damage without knowing and it will cost you more money in the long run.
How easy or hard is it to change a clutch in a fiat punto 55 and about how much is the part.?
Trust me mate, i'm 15 and i know that it has a bugger to do, you need to take the gearbox case off, and that is really really heavy, u also need to take of the flywheel which the clutch is attached to, if you put the clutch in the wrong way you will have 5 reverse gears and one forward gear. Mate get a garage to do it, it is a nightmare to do.
How easy or hard is it to change a clutch in a fiat punto 55 and about how much is the part.?
For a profesionnal it's an easy car for an smsnteur is a tough part because you need experience to do that and tools. Also you need special tools so you will put i center the cluch into the flyweel. The part costs about 80-100鈧?and includes the cluch set and bearing.

honestly if you just kinda look it over its not that bad. there should be adjustment on your lever. loosen it all the way till you can drop the cable out. once its loose the bottom should do the same. then just slide the new one in where the old one goes and your back in buisness.

How do i change the clutch on my 92 Honda civic dx?
You'll need the following tools if you don't already have one:

A clutch disc and pressure plate kit. Costs about $100 from your local auto parts store.

Ball joint remover fork. You'll need this to lift the lower ball joint off the lower arm ball joint.

Air compressor and impact wrench (900+ lbs.ft). An impact wrench is the best way to remove a tight axle nut.

Punch pin. The right sized punch pin will help you remove the pin that holds your gear rod together.

Transmission jack (or jack with a transmission adapter). You'll need this to lower/lift your transmission bell evenly from under the car.

Clutch gear holder. This may come as a simple plastic gear that allows you to align the teeth to the flywheel and clutch disk when you put in the replacement.

Torque wrench. You'll need to torque all of your bolts to specification with the highest one (axle nut) about 140 lbs. ft.

Ratchet box wrench. These can be handy when you need to get into tight spots. Using an iron pipe over a box wrench can give you lots of leverage if necessary.

It's probably one of the hardest jobs I had done for the first time but not impossible. You'll need to buy a Honda Civic Service manual for exact step by step instructions (one officially from Honda is preferrable)

Basically, you'll be instructed to jack up your car onto jackstands, remove your left wheel and drain your transmission fluid.

Then you'll need to remove both axles. The intake air pipe, element air box, radiator overflow reservoir, slave clutch cylinder, starter, shift rod, side and rear transmission/engine mounts before you get a chance to unbolt the transmission (weighs about 80 lbs).

Inside you simply replace the old clutch disc and pressure plate. If you think your flywheel looks bad, you can replace that too. Make sure you put grease around the clutch fork contact points and other necessary spots.

The toughest part can be getting the transmission bell to align back onto the engine. If you don't have a transmission jack, it can be difficult and time consuming.

    Good luck!
dont have to drop the trans out.....wtf is your problem.....you do tho need to seperate the bellhousing from the enging......personally i suggest having someone that knows what there doing do it

How do you change a clutch on a 2006 mitsubishi lancer evolution 9?

Here is a word of advice!

Order a performance clutch, the factory cutch is very weak.

The factory clutch is made to slip so that first time drivers dont ruin the trans. If you buy a performance clutch, remember not to jam it off the line or you will ruin the trans. The AWD provides tremendous grip off the line but you must remember to respect it.

How change a clutch toyota 2000 celica??

here is the very best thing you can do.. go to your local auto zone or O'reillys parts store and buy the haynes repair guide for your particular modle.. cost is about 15 bucks.. it will show you in detail step by step of removal and replacement.. you can do it.. but here is a word of caution.. when you jack the car up.. make absolute certain that you have the car on proper jack stands and that you have the car level.. do not crawl under a car that is not properly supported.. jack the car properly and insert the jack stands in the proper places.. and always.. ALWAYS.. leave the jack in place after you have put the car on jack stands.. you put it under the frame up front.. with it bearing just a bit of the weight.. not enough to raise it off the stands.. but just enough to be a catcher.. just in case.. you can do this job.. just read the instructions.. good luck..

How change a clutch toyota 2000 celica??
take out the transaxle an pressure plate there you will find your clutch take that off replace it you may want to invest in the whole deal getting a new flywheel pressure plate an realese bearing cause who knows if that stuff is gonna go too then thats 2 times you gotta drop your trans axle but if you just change the clutch make sure the right side goes to towards the flywheel an trans then rebolt everything , you may want to find a trans plug stick thing for when you rebolt your pressure plate back on over the fly wheel to hold it in the correct position to prevent the clutch from falling down to the bottum of the pressure plate, that has happened to me an its not nice when you go to start it an it doesnt work taking it apart 2 times is a real bummer

Go to a clutch specialist as they have the special tools to do it without pulling the engine out, plus they arent making any money if they cant get it done in 2 hours...about $250.

Er, Ford Mondeo question...anyone ever changed a clutch on one of these WITHOUT taking the engine out???

Seems like ford have made it a ridiculously tricky and time consuming job to drop the clutch and put a new in, anyone have any experience of this? Costs? Toptips? Cheers in advance!|||was to big a job for me I had to get mine done in a garage, it cost just over £600.

the car was only worth £800 but unfortunatly I had it on HP so had no choice.|||You must drop the complete subframe before the gearbox comes out. It%26#039;s pretty straight forward once you get your head round it.

Get your ex to do it he must owe you one.|||This apparently was one of the few draw backs on the Mondeo that you did have to drop the engine to do the clutch - ot at least so I was always led to believe.|||No just drop the drive shaft and it will ease out and fix replacement in|||your right it is tricky but alas engine and sub frame has to be (not completely) removed but lowered enough to separate g/box .... fords Hmm

Mr clutch does a good cheapish job

PS don%26#039;t forget locating pins for sub frame|||Any other way is extreemly arkward , dont try it unless you have access to lifting gear and a hoist you can drop one side and lift box out ,But it does put a strain on the exuast and other fixtures . (not recomended.) but that is as bad as dropping the whole sub frame|||Going by experience of some mondeos I helped with the clutch whilst I was on work placement whilst at college studying motor vehicle engineering the quickest way t do a mondeo clutch is to take the exhaust off so it clears the sub frame, remove the lower suspension ball joints from the front hubs, remove the drive shafts support the engine from above remove the starter motor spedo cable clutch cable the upper bell housing bolts then under neath remove some engine/gearbox support brackets and remove the sub frame support the gearbox from underneath with a transmission jack remove the lower bell housing bolts and extract the gearbox and you can then remove the clutch refitting is reverse of removal

Have you ever dropped a transmission on a front wheel drive before? you could seriously hurt yourself or at the least cost yourself a lot more money then you actually have to pay.|||don%26#039;t bother doing it urself have a shop or dealer do it. if the dealer does it, it will come with at least 1yr warranty on parts and labor.|||by taking it to Toyota dealership|||Take it to a garage and tell the mechanic you need a new clutch.|||If you have never replaced a clutch in a front wheel drive vehicle, this is not the vehicle to start with. Yaris is only been out 1 1/2 years and there is probably no manual available for it yet. You should just take it to your nearest Toyota dealership and let them fix it for you.|||its alot of work and you better buy a chiltons manual and is to much to explain here|||It%26#039;s easy, drop the gearbox, unbolt the clutch and stick the new one in it%26#039;s place! If your lucky you%26#039;ll have loads of spares left at the end as well.

Of course the most cost effective option would be to take it to a decent mechanic and ask him/her to do the job for you. It will take a tenth of the time, and should have some sort of guarantee

Anyone know how to change a clutch cable in an 89 twinwheel transit PLEASE?

look its easy first check were the transmission is located if its on the left of the engine or right or under the gear stick .

second locate the cable on the clutch pedal get helper and tell him to press the clutch pedal and look for movement to locate the clutch cable.once you have located it take it off by pressing the clutch pedal down and with pair of pliers uncliping it/unbolt it from the transmission end.(always remember the cables route mark it if you need to)theres a cerclip at the pedal stopping the cable to come off take that off and the cable will slide off.

Depending which gearbox is fitted it%26#039;s either a adjuster that needs to be slackened and taken of or you can wedge something behind the arm and jemmy it off..That%26#039;s the easy part, When the cable is disconnected from the Gearbox you need to realease it from the pedal end take care to have the drivers side footwell clean because there is a clip which attaches the cable to pedal and if you loose that you will have to go to a car spares shop or a breakers yard.

Once the cable is disconnected you need to go in the engine bay and take the whole cable from the bulkhead then it should be free to fall to the floor.... refitting is a reversal of removal........................Good Luck

It%26#039;s not necessarily a hard job; it just takes a while. Give it a shot though. What%26#039;s the worst that could happen?|||I could be said the clutch job is no more diffciult than the brake job--when you get to it. That%26#039;s the trouble. First you must seperate the transmission from the engine, first disengaging the balljoints and other parts. Then the transmission must be lowered. Afterwards, the tramsission must be raised and aligned and brought together and everything put back together. It%26#039;s a whole lot more work than a brake job--and you won%26#039;t be sitting outside on a milk crate the whole time either!|||Considerable. To replace the clutch in most cars, you have to drop the transmission %26amp; get it out of the way. If you have a friend who has done this before, it would be worth a six-pack to get him to help, so you could learn. There are also specialized tools needs, like a input shaft stub tool. to a mechanic a clutch job on any truck 2wd is gravy work we love those the clutch kit can run anywhere from 100 to 200 i would go to local toyota dealer as they will probably have it in stock and ur getting the best quality of part how ever 97 would kinda have a few gm influences as toyota and gm have been friends since 92 when GEO came around so u could go with an AC delco clutch too neways its simple if u know what ur doing no u dont need a come along its not a semi support the front of the vehicle by jack stand as high as u can go. ull need all the room u can get next drop the drive shaft watch for gear lube out of the output shaft of the tranny with the truck at an angle u will loose alittle the motor is supported from the side dont worry about it next remove any crossmembers under the tranny out of the way with the tranny at an angle remove wiring harness speed sensor wires ect. then go inside the truck remove shift lever the remove tranny bolts from tranny support tranny with a jack and pull and drop tranny then R and R clutch throw out bearing and pilot bushing installation is reverse of removal. the pilot bushing is trick use a socket and some axel grease stuff the axel grease in the pilot bushing hole in the back of the crank using ur finger make sure u fill the socket with grease put an extension in the socket make sure socket fits snug in pilot bushing hole then with a hammer hit the extension as principles of hydraulics cant compress a fluid will force the pilot bushing out may have to hit and refill several times to make sure there is no air between the crank and pilot bushing u want that space full of grease and u do not want grease to come out between the socket and the bushing hole make sure its as tight as it can be or just use slide hammer and the right adapter. also make sure u put grease around the input shaft of tranny before install this will make them slide together easier and make sure u use the alignment tool to align cluch disc to crank hope this helps|||Not hard if you have a lift and a trans jack . How do I change a clutch in my toyota pickup?

Its a 1989 toyota 4x4 with a 22re 4 cylinder engine. Help!|||First I would suggest getting a manual for the truck. It will have a good write up on this but above all it will have the torque specs you will need for the bolts during re-assembly. Start by chocking the wheels, setting the e-brake and un-hooking the battery. Next start with the easy stuff, remove the shift boot from the shifters and remove the shifters. Remove the starter, driveshafts, speedo cable, and any wires that might be connected to the tranny. If you have a hydralic clutch you will need to remove or disconnect the lines from it as well. Hopefully with the 22re your exhaust does not get in the way... you shouldn%26#039;t have to remove it to get the tranny out. The tranny and t-case together weigh about 250 lbs. I would recomend a good transmission jack, if that%26#039;s not a possibility you can use a regular floor jack but you will need an extra friend to help you usually if you don%26#039;t have the tranny jack. Go ahead and remove the bolts that hold the transmission and engine together. There are usually a couple at the top that are hard to get to from underneath. You may have to get them from the top. Remove the bolts in the transmission mount at the crossmember and jack up the back of the tranny. Now you can remove the crossmember. Then let the tranny back down a little and it should slide right out... usually with a little persuasion. Now you can remove the pressure plate from the flywheel. The %26quot;clutch%26quot; is between the flywheel and pressure plate. Remove them and the flywheel. I would take the flywheel somewhere and have it re-surfaced, just ask at the parts house where you get your parts and they can tell you where to get it done... they may do it. While your having that done take the time to replace the rear-seal in your engine and any seals that you can in the tranny while you have it out. Once you have that done and the flywheel back you need to replace the bearing in the center of the flywheel and grease it (this is a different bearing than the throw-out bearing that operates your clutch)... then bolt it back up and torque to spec. Now you can put the new clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing in. Be sure to use the clutch alignment tool that comes with your clutch/pressure plate. It will look like the end of the input shaft on your tranny, and if it didn%26#039;t come with the clutch/pressure plate then you can buy it seperately. Torque all of that to spec and you can start putting everything back together.

I would also suggest checking your clutch slave cylinder. If it%26#039;s in the tranny behind the throw-out bearing than I would change it anyway since you already have the tranny out.

I can do it on my full size bronco in about 5 hours not counting the time it takes to get the fly-wheel re-surfaced. Usually about 2-3 hours to get everything apart and 2-3 hours to put it back together.

How to change a clutch on a 4x4 Dodge power ram 250?

I have done many things with cars and trucks most of it body work. Most of the things i have done were simple like a intake manifold and carb for my mustang, plugs \ wires, the hardest thing was a transmissionn on a taurus. But the truck is an 88 btw any tips or pointers?? thanks|||you dont you take it to the junkyard and buy ford f250 turbo desiel|||This is a big task on a 4x4. Both driveshafts need to be marked for location and removed. This means the wheels and tires need to be chocked. The nice thing is there is room to work with out a lift. The transfer case sits on the crossmember and is bolted to the rear of the trans. Using a block of wood and a floor jack positioned under the transmission will support the weight. The trans. should be able to seperate from the bell housing and the crossmember unbolt from the frame and the hole unit can be slid back about 4 inches. A couple C clamps positioned at the crossmember, the floor jack, and even a jack stand will keep this stationary so the pressure plate, flywheel, and disc can be removed. Doing it this way requires at least 2 people, please don%26#039;t attempt this by yourself. If you are, a different method is needed.

I would recommend having the flywheel resurfaced or replaced, this will provide the best wear and life of the clutch. Most auto parts stores offer the clutch disc by itself or a clutch kit. The clutch kit has the disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and an alignment tool. Go with the kit, it will save a lot of head aches later. Make sure to use brake parts cleaner on the pressure plate and flywheel prior to assembling the cluch disc. This will remove any dirty and grease from the mating surfaces.

If I remember correctly this job books out at around 14 hours. Of course they expect you to disassemble the transfer case from the transmission. This saves about 3 hours. When using a jack stand, do not place it on the transmission input shaft, this could damage the inner bearing. Also replace the pilot bushing or rearing in the rear of the crankshaft.

The shifters will need to be removed, both the trans. and the transfer.

A lot of work, but it can be done. Hope this helps. Christopher|||if its a 4 wheel drive its actually easier to pull the engine out than to try and pull the transmission and transfer case out ,unless you own a transmission jack,i have pulled more engines than transmissions to replace clutches because its easier and quicker, the only problem you have with doing it like this is it takes two people to do it and their real hard to line back up sometimes, but it still takes less time than removing the drive shafts and all the related parts to the 4 wheel drive, good luck.|||Sometimes it%26#039;s easier to pull the engine to replace clutch. One of the ways i have done clutches in the past is to use a strap through the shifter hole in the floor board. Just remember to remove any part of the console the strap could damage.|||I agree that it should be raised up on ramps to save your back and arms in the process. I have sockets, common sense, torque wrench and other common tools.|||I would buy a full clutch kit. Comes with the pads and metal rings. Make sure you soak them in oil for 30minutes before putting them in. Also you may have to buy a new clutch basket. It is best to pull the basket out first and rub you fingers in the area where the plates ride. If there are any grooves you might be able to file them down or you%26#039;ll have to buy a new basket. If you don%26#039;t you will have gears sticking on you down the line. For the clutch kit I use Dirt Diggers and they have not given me any problems.

Put the cable in the handlebar side first, it%26#039;s just a slip in end with a metal disc, and the cable routes thru the slit in the lever. Run the cable to the casing side, and you%26#039;ll see the lever where the other side attaches. Use a flat head screwdriver to push the lever forward by hand, and slip the cable in the slot on the lever. When you let go of the lever, the slack will tighten up on the cable. Be sure you route the whole cable as the old one was, to insure theres no obsrtuctions, or pinching of the cable along the way. Adjust the cable at the bottom to take out any initial slack if needed, and do the final adjustments at the clutch lever adjuster.|||np....glad to help! ride safe

How do you change a Clutch Cable on a 74 Honda CB 450 DOHC?

I was riding my cb 450 this weekend and when i pulled in the clutch I could feel a clicking. Then it seems the clutch cable snapped. The clutch handle would not spring back. Any advice would be great, Thanks.|||A CB 450 was my first bike, (loooong ago!).

    That%26#039;s a good old bike.

You will need to remove the tank.

Start at the hand-lever. Disconnect the old cable.

There%26#039;s a %26#039;puck%26#039; on the cable end that fits the handle.

You must turn the cable to get it out of the slot.

(Just look carefully, you%26#039;ll see how.)

turn the handle adjuster all the way in leaving max. clearance.

Install the end of the new cable.

then work down the old cable, removing it and putting the

new one in its place until you get down to the engine case.

You will have to remove the left case cover.

(An impact driver is suggested for those phillips head bolts.

they WILL be frozen in place, and a screw driver will

    likely strip the heads.)

Loosen the clutch adjuster to give you maximum play,

(screw the collar all the way in), and remove the old cable.

If you watch how it comes off it%26#039;s easy to get the new one on.

There%26#039;s a slotted box fitting that the %26#039;puck%26#039; fits into.

Reinstall the side case cover, (it%26#039;s a good idea to oil

the threads of those bolts before inserting them so that

they stick less next time), and adjust the clutch play

at the side cover, (that slotted round plug), by loosening

the holding bolt, turning the plug untill you%26#039;ve got

    tension, and retightening the bolt.

    You should be done.

You can fine tune the tension with the lever

adjuster.|||Go to shop buy cable, they will tell you in 3 minutes or less how to change and adjust, its real real easy.

How to change a clutch in a 1992 prelude?

need to change clutch on a 192 prelude wana do it my self anyone tell me how?|||Replacing the clutch on a front wheel drive vehicle is much more difficult then you would think. Definitely get a Chilton%26#039;s manual and follow it step by step. Along with the complete meteric tool set mentioned earlier make sur you have plenty of extensions.

I personally find it easier to pull the engine and transmission together, change the clutch on the floor and reinstall the egine/trans. If you haven%26#039;t done a clutch before front or rear wheel drive, then this may be one that you want to allow a shop to do.

If you do choose to go ahead yourself use a Chilton%26#039;s, the steps are much too involved to describe.

Good Luck|||your best bet is get a chilton repair manual for your vehicle%26#039;s year make and model and follow the directions VERY carefully. its an involved process to remove and replace the clutch. first thing you need to do is get the vehicle onto jack stands, remove the wheels, front drive shafts, with a transmission jack or (small floor jack), under the transmission, separate the transmission from the motor. the clutch sits inside the bell housing that attaches the motor to the transmission. and you might want to think about getting a full set of metric end wrenches, metric sockets, a few screw drivers,( flat head and phillips heads) and a few pliers (regular and needle nose), a pry bar and a good hammer because your gonna need them, or you can take it to a shop, someone you trust and let them do it.|||Hey, that%26#039;s my car! you bought it. i just changed the clutch two years ago. To tell you step-by-step is impossible here. Get a Chilton%26#039;s or Haynes repair manual and follow instructions carefully. you should be ok if you%26#039;re a mechanically inclined person. don%26#039;t forget to get yourself a clutch alignment tool. you must align the clutch.

How hard is it to change a clutch in a 94 Mustang?

I have a 94 mustang, and the clutch is showing sings on going out. so I bought a new one. and decided to put it in myself. I bought the Repair Manual for my car. and it look like i could do it. but i just wanted a opinion on how hard or complicated it is for someone who has never done it before.|||You at least need a good set of jack stands but doing it while laying on your back isn%26#039;t real easy. It%26#039;s much easier if you have a lift and a transmission jack. Since the transmission provides the engines rear support, and the transmission has to come out, you%26#039;ll have to have a way to support the rear of the engine when you remove the transmission and bell housing. Don%26#039;t just replace the clutch, also replace the throw out and pilot bearings or you%26#039;ll be back in there in a short time doing it again. You%26#039;ll also need a clutch alignment tool which can be purchased for a few bucks at any auto parts store. It isn%26#039;t a terribly hard job but, you need the proper tools, stands, fixtures and knowledge.|||Its not complicated, just difficult to do without putting the car up in the air (over your head). To replace the clutch, you need to remove the transmission bell housing. Its heavy and usually very difficult to get the top bolts in and out. Good luck!|||It%26#039;s a pretty big job. If you%26#039;ve never had a trans out before I suggest you bring along someone who has. There are quite a few safety concerns both during and after the repair.

How much does it cost to change a Clutch on a car?

Whats the easiest way to change a clutch on my 1985 Subaru GL hatchback?

im changing the clutch on my 85 and i was wondering if there was a diagram on the internet that could show me how because the book says i have to pull the engine to do it, is there an easier way or is a there a diagram you could show me, thanks|||I just did the clutch on my subaru a couple weeks ago. You do NOT need to pull the engine. Unhook the trans from the linkages, wires, driveshaft, and bellhousing bolts. You do not need pull the front axles, as you just need to seperate the engine and trans far enough to get the clutch and flywheel out. (make sure you buy a new flywheel or get your old flywheel resurfaced). Replace the clutch and reinstall. Do not let the trans hang on the clutch when putting it back in, this will warp the clutch plate. I was able to hold the trans up with the front axles and trans crossmember mount.

How do you change a clutch in a 1982 toyota supra?

    Like dropping the transmission and taking out and replacing the clutch with a new one.|||First off, spend the money for a Haynes manual $22 so you will have all the torque specs and know where to and where not to apply lubrication for moving parts, and how to center the clutch disc so you can get the trans to pop back in place. Also plan to have your flywheel machined flat (machine shop) to reduce the chances of premature wear and clutch shudder.|||%26quot;Like dropping the transmission and taking out and replacing the clutch with a new one.%26quot;

I'm changing a clutch in a civic and i can't seperate the trans from the motor, any advice?

undo the bolts holding them together|||Hit it with a BFH right where they connect. That might do it.|||once the bolts are out , youve gotta pull and wiggle ,itll come off eventually|||Make double sure there isn%26#039;t a bolt left holding it together or you could break the transmition case.Sometimes theres corrosion around the alignment pins, some wd 40 helps and some pry bars.|||dude check the bolt near the oil filter|||honda hides bolts well.be very sure you got all of them.trying to beat or pry on it will get you a two piece bellhousing, not good.

Figure $40.00 to $65.00 per hour plus parts and the flywheel will have to be resurfaced. NEVER install a new clutch without resurfacing the flywheel. Total cost will be $350.00 to $500.00

    Im changing a clutch in a 94 sentra 1.6 L fwd.?

how do i seperate the bell housing from the engine to get to the clutch.|||You%26#039;ll need to remove the bolts, along with the drive axles, starter, shift linkage, mounts, and speedo cable. Also disconnect the reverse light wiring. You are taking the transmission out of the car to install the clutch, no way around it.
